Selma Karabey

Prof., Public Health, Istanbul University

Prof. Selma Karabey is a graduate of Istanbul Faculty of Medicine and a Public Health Specialist and has been working in the Department of Public Health at Istanbul Medical Faculty since 1986. In addition, she is a consultant in various boards of the Ministry of Health, a member of the Association of Public Health Specialists (HASUDER) Specialization Competency Board, and the executive of the "Public Mental Health Working Group" and a member of the National Medical Education Accreditation Board Visiting Team. She served as the founding member and board member of the AIDS Prevention Association between 1992-2005, and as the chair of the Turkish Hospital Infections and Control Association between 2004-2008. She has been working on the Board of BirİZ Association, which has been working in the field of community mental health since 2016, and as a member of the Lancet COVID-19 Commission Humanitarian Aid, Social Protection and Vulnerable Groups Task Force since October 2020. Selma Karabey's professional interests are health promotion, health inequalities and public health advocacy.
