Sadun Emrealp

Governance Consultant

Sadun Emrealp was born in Istanbul in 1954. Completed high school in Tarsus American College, and the university education in Middle East Technical University, Department of Political Science and Public Administration. After getting The Master’s Degree in the same Department, continued with higher education in Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences, and in University of Kent at Canterbury. Between 1982-1986, served as the Deputy Director in “Çukurova Metropolitan Region Urban Development” Project. Between 1987-2003, served in the management of the Istanbul-based regional sections of the International Union of Local Authorities (IULA) and between 2004-2010, of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG). Simultaneously, served as the National Coordinator of Turkey Local Agenda 21 Program, conducted between 1998-2009 with the support of UNDP and under the auspices of the Ministry of Interior. Under this Program, contributed to the establishment of Citizens’ Assemblies and the development of pertinent legislation. Subsequently, served as the Team Leader in “Improving Participatory Strategic Governance at Local Level” Project, conducted between 2011-2013, and in “Strengthening of Local Investment Planning Capacity with the Participation of Local Actors” Project between 2014-2016, both conducted by the Ministry of Interior with the support of the EU. Lastly, served as the Team Leader in “Town Twinning Between Turkey and the EU” Project, conducted by the Directorate of EU Affairs with the support of the EU. Married with two daughters, Sadun Emrealp has numerous publications in Turkish and English in the fields of political sciences and local governments.
