Norliza Hashim is the Chief Executive of Urbanice Malaysia, a Centre of Excellence for Community Well-being and Urban Sustainability, under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government Malaysia. Urbanice key aim is to implement sustainable policies and strategies to cities and communities in Malaysia through Knowledge Sharing Platforms, Urban Innovation & Solutions, Applied Research and Development and its Global Partnerships. Through these activities, Urbanice shall provide urban leaders and practitioners with the knowledge and support needed to achieve sustainable urbanisation. Norliza lead the team of Local Secretariat for World Urban Forum 9 hosted by Malaysia in 2018. WUF 9 is the world’s premier forum addressing various urban challenges where her key task was to work alongside UN-Habitat to address the implementation of the New Urban Agenda that emphasize the agenda of Cities for All to ensure inclusivity and sustainability of our cities in light of rapid urbanization faced today. Norliza is a professional Town Planner and her experience covers a wide spectrum of the planning discipline and developing plans and blueprints that has also contributed towards Malaysia’s nation-building. She had led many teams of experts to develop national, regional and city blueprints that embed sustainability as its key growth pathways. Norliza sits on the Leadership Council for Sustainable Development Solutions Network Malaysia and several organisation related to sustainability as her passion lies in promoting the sustainability agenda and in providing innovative solutions that contribute towards a better quality of life and built environment for cities and nation.
