Nilüfer Baturayoğlu Yöney

Prof., Architecture, Mustafa Kemal University & Secretary General, DOCOMOMO Turkey

Nilüfer Baturayoğlu Yöney is a professor of architecture, history and theory of architecture and architectural preservation at Hatay Mustafa Kemal University Faculty of Architecture. She completed her architecture and architectural preservation degrees at Middle East Technical University Faculty of Architecture, and her PhD in architectural preservation at Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Architecture in 2008. In 2009-2010 with a grant from The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, she conducted post-doctoral research at Université du Québec a Montréal in Canada on the preservation of modern architecture and modern housing estates. Before joining MKU Faculty of Architecture, she worked at ITU Faculty of Architecture (1998-2013) and Abdullah Gül University Faculty of Architecture (2013-2020). She designed the master plan and several architectural preservation and adaptive reuse projects at the AGU Sümer Campus (former Kayseri Sümerbank Textile Factory, Ivan Nikolaev, 1935) with her colleague Burak Asiliskender. Her research, teaching and publications focus on history and theory of architecture and architectural preservation; legal issues concerning historic sites and heritage management plans; architectural and archaeological survey and documentation methods; architectural, archaeological, urban and rural preservation; history, characterisation and conservation of building materials and technologies; and preservation of modern and industrial heritage, and especially modern housing estates. She is a member several international organisations, specialising in the documentation and preservation of modern and industrial heritage, including ICOMOS, TICCIH an DOCOMOMO. She is member of ICOMOS ISC Twentieth Century Heritage (ISC20C), and one of the founders and secretary general of DOCOMOMO Turkey since in 2002.
