Bicycle Transportation Planning 101: Infrustructure, Road Safety and Communication

Although bicycle transportation has been encouraged by both local and central governments in Turkey for many years, it has not been perceived as a mode of transportation; instead, it continued to be seen as a recreation and sports tool.  Despite the grant calls of various ministries, safeand integrated bicycle network could not be implemented in our cities. With this training organized by WRI Turkey Sustainable Cities, • The sine qua non of the bicycle infrastructure for transportation, which can provide answers to the problems faced by the municipalities in the planning process of bicycle transportation, will be conveyed, • Solutions covering road safety elements will be introduced by clearly revealing the place of bicycle transportation in the current transportation system, • Communication approaches that will encourage bicycle transportation will be shared in the context of sustainable transportation. The main purpose of this training is to support the development of safe and integrated bicycle infrastructure and correct sustainable transportation communication strategies in order to promote cycling in public transportation
